Areas of Parallelograms and Triangles

Board: GSEB Class: 9

Chapter Overview

The area of a parallelogram = base x height. The area of a triangle = (1/2) x base x height. Figures on the same base and between the same parallels have equal areas. Theorem: parallelograms on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area. Theorem: triangles on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area. A median divides a triangle into two triangles of equal area.

Topics Covered

  • Area of Parallelogram
  • Area of Triangle
  • Same Base Concept
  • Same Parallels Concept
  • Equal Area Theorems
  • Median and Area

Key Formulas

Area of parallelogram = bh
Area of triangle = (1/2)bh
Parallelograms same base & parallels => equal area
Triangles same base & parallels => equal area

Real-World Applications

Applications: Land measurement, construction planning, flooring/carpeting, agricultural area calculation.
